Pitstone Green Windmill (sometimes known as Ivinghoe Windmill) is the oldest dated post mill in England but it is not typical of early post mills as it has a roundhouse.Having a roundhouse makes this a 'turret' post mill. However, the state of the timbers would indicate that the roundhouse is a later addition. The date 1627 is carved on a timber in the windmill but there is also 1749, presumably added at the time of a rebuilding or when the roundhouse was added.
